Tell automakers, consumer advocates, and industry leaders that it's time to "silence the horns"

Automakers' contact information is available on this site. Contact information for industry leaders is below. You are welcome to send letters to Silence the Horns via e-mail. We will forward letters attached in Word or PDF format to the appropriate parties upon request.

It is easier to send an e-mail or use a form, but it is always more effective to send a hard copy letter by regular mail, whether it's a formal business letter or handwritten.

When you write, we recommend against disparaging car owners who use the technology, no matter how extreme their behavior. If the technology hadn't been developed, most of them would not be using it.
Car owners' use of the feature is not even a part of our message or our discourse.

Please read this editorial by former President and CEO Jim Guest about Consumer Reports' record of addressing selected auto safety issues before you write.

We are asking Consumers Union and the organization's publication Consumer Reports magazine to address horn-based vehicle alerts through advocacy or coverage in the magazine. While the magazine has long addressed noise sources such as engine noise, wheel noise, tire noise, general cabin noise, and other occasional noises such as rattling and knocking, it has only once briefly addressed a related form of horn honking in a single car review in 2011.
